4 Easy and Accessible Ways to Help with Chafing

Hot girl summer is right around the corner and it’s safe to say we’re all excited for the sunshine. After the crazy year we all experienced, what we need and deserve is some warm sunny weather that will give us a rush of serotonin. But hot girl summer also means sweaty girl summer for some of us. Heat and sweat can be a disaster combination for those susceptible to chafing. So let’s chat about it.

Leg Chafing

What is chafing?

Chafing is an extremely common skin problem caused by friction, moisture and irritating fabric. Constant rubbing on the skin gives your skin a burning and stinging sensation. The area of the skin that experiences chaffing can develop a rash and in severe cases can begin to bleed, crust or swell. Chafing often occurs in the thigh or groin area but it can happen anywhere on the body where there is friction, so think, underarms or even your tush.

Who experiences it?

Anyone can experience chafing. Chafing can happen around thighs but it is certainly not limited to just women. Men can experience chafing as well in between their thighs and groin. Many athletes, even the fittest one experience chafing while performing their sport. The repetitive action of their thighs rubbing against each other and excess moisture from sweat causes an uncomfortable burning sensation.

What does it feel like?

It’s hard to narrow down exactly what chafing feels like because it’s different for everyone. We asked some of our followers what chafing feels like for them. These are the responses we got:

“Burning and irritation sensation”

“Wearing a pair of shoes in the summer that gives you a big blister for a period of time that is unavoidable. Also cotton track shorts do the most damage.”

“A sticky feeling that is so uncomfortable that when it’s happening, it’s the only thing you can think of.”

“Feels like a rug burn….. kind of like sandpaper rubbing up against your body”

When does chafing get really bad?

Summer can be a terrible time for those susceptible to chafing because sweat only makes it worse. Also not to mention that in the summer, we tend to wear more loose fitting clothes like shorts, dresses and skirts which leaves our skin exposed.

4 Easy and Accessible Ways to Help with Chafing

Deodorant Stick

    • Isn’t deodorant meant for your underarms?” Yes, it is but you can also use it between your thighs to help with chafing. It can help soothe the skin and minimize the uncomfortable pain. Opt for a regular deodorant stick and avoid anything with a gel consistency.

Wear Anti-Chafing Clothes

    • Avoid cotton and wear moisture wicking, well-fitted clothes to avoid chafing between the thighs. The last thing you want to wear is tight jeans shorts that are rough on the skin. Instead of jean shorts, wear biker shorts, those are IN right?

Baby Powder

    • Most of us have baby powder in our house and it’s a great product to help with chafing. Baby powder is great for absorbing moisture and soothing irritation. The only downside is that the white powder might not give off the best look… But girls gotta do what a girls gotta do…

Nude Oil

    • Our Nude Oil may not prevent chafing but it will sure help your skin feel less irritated. Pump the oil 2-3 times into your palm and pat the oil onto your inner thighs. The tea tree essential oil will help with the redness and irritation.

Hot girl summers calling your name and you’re ready to take on chafing now that you know some tips on how to ease the burning sensation. Chafing is not something to be embarrassed about and it’s important to know that a lot of people experience it.
