Waxing Aftercare Advice

The worst is over! Now it's time to properly care for your skin after being waxed, and take the necessary steps to make sure it's smooth sailing down there and at your next appointment. We asked a few of our esthetician partners for some advice on how to take care of your skin after a wax.

After Wax Guidance

Wear loose fitting clothing post waxing

Hopefully, you arrived at your wax appointment in loose-fitting clothing, and you plan on staying in them. One easy thing you can do upon getting home is ensuring you change into a clean pair of breathable underwear. We recommend trying Calita Intimates for a buttery soft and super comfortable pair of panties.

In addition to your choice of clothing, avoid exercising, sweating, moving around too much, and any sexual activities that would cause friction on your skin.

Stay hydrated after a wax

Ensure you are drinking water before and after your wax. Your body needs it.

To soothe and protect the skin around your bikini line, legs, or armpits, apply a non-comedogenic ingrown hair treatment oil to the waxed area daily, but especially for the first 3 days following your wax appointment. Always wash your hands before applying the oil anywhere on your body.

Another way you can stay hydrated and soothe your skin after a wax is by applying Sweet Escape Oil. This scented ingrown hair treatment oil is packed with natural ingredients, including tangerine essential oil which has extra hydrating and rejuvenating properties. It's a top pick and sold at over 500 waxing studios across North America.

Post-Waxing Aftercare

Ensure you are exfoliating your pubic area to prevent itching when pubic hair is growing back

If you're wondering whether to exfoliate before or after your wax, you can do both – but after waxing, exfoliating with one of the Bushbalm sugar scrubs is a must. Two or three times a week will be enough to help you avoid any ingrown hairs and bumps that can come when the hair starts to grow back. To up your exfoliating game, try using a dry brush before the shower. Dry brushing is a great skin detox, and an amazing way to exfoliate your skin. For best results with dry brushing, do this twice a week.

Apply a Post-Waxing Aftercare Oil

Ingrown hairs are normal and common, but they can be treated and prevented. If you are prone to getting ingrown hairs, it's time to add Nude Oil to your daily skincare, everywhere routine. Nude is packed with tea tree oil which is the antibacterial agent used to fight pesty ingrown hairs. It's pretty much scentless, fast-absorbing, cruelty-free, and safe for all skin types. Many estheticians apply Nude Oil immediately after waxing the skin because it can quickly bring down redness, soothe the skin, and most importantly, prevent ingrown hairs.

Treat bikini line for dark spots & scars with a Dark Spot Oil

One of the worst parts about ingrown hairs around the bikini line is the stubborn dark spots they can leave behind. To lighten dark spots, start applying Bermuda Oil daily. You’ll want to apply Bermuda Oil within the first two minutes of getting out of the shower because that is when your skin is most absorbent. While it's completely fine to do so, you don't have to apply Bermuda to all of the waxed skin areas. You can simply treat it as a dark spot treatment.

Schedule regular waxing appointments to ensure consistency

After 4 weeks, you are probably ready for your next wax. Don't shave in between appointments! If you can't make time for your next wax appointment, use the Francesca Trimmer to give yourself a little trim.

Commons Pubic Hair Waxing Questions

How many times do you have to wax before hair stops growing?

Waxing regularly every 4-6 weeks will reduce hair regrowth. Shaving cuts the hair above the surface, whereas, waxing pulls the hair out by the root. This makes waxing a convenient option for those who can afford it and it fits into their routine.

How long does your pubic hair need to be before waxing?

For the wax to grip and pull the hair out by the root you want the hair to be at least 1/4" long. This is difficult if you are out of cycle between waxing, which is why we recommend getting a pre-waxing trimmer to groom your pubic hair to 1/4".

What does waxing regrowth after 1 week look like?

Depending where you are in your waxing journey the hair regrowth will look different. For some the hair will be slightly piercing through and for others this is the phase where ingrown hairs can be troubling.
